7/27/22 Journal: Ask Me a Question

So say they say the best time to build a business is in a recession. I don’t know who ‘they’ is, or whether they’re masochistic or not, but I guess I’m going to test their theory. I don’t really have much of a choice.

Confession time: The mortgage business has been so good the last two years, I really sloughed off on the marketing of my practice. In 2019, I was always posting pictures from closings, writing stories about happy couples buying their first homes, and uploading videos to my YouTube channel on interesting and informative mortgage-related content. I loved doing that stuff whether it helped my business or not, but the truth is I probably got anywhere from four to eight closings out it.

But 2020 and 2021 got really busy, and while I never once said, “I’m not going to promote myself anymore”, I just didn’t make the time for it. And that’s a huge mistake. Why?

Because you all have a short memory. I swear, ten or fifteen times over the last two years I’ve seen someone posting about closing on their home–someone who I would assume knew what I do to feed my kids–and I’d ask them why they didn’t use me. Sometimes the answer was they “knew someone else” or “used the Realtor’s recommendation”, which I totally get. But a lot of the time the answer was, “Oh I forgot that’s what you do!”

And that’s on me. My job requires that I make you aware of my job. Everybody has a short memory. There’s a reason the most famous brands in the world–Coke, Apple, Toyota–still advertise everyday. They know they have to fight to remain in the public consciousness.

So do I. And hey, you can help.

I’m ramping the YouTube channel back up. The plan is to answer one question on every clip. Everybody has ADHD anymore, so if I only answer one question, that should keep the video less than two minutes long. I can then repurpose the content for Facebook Stories, Instagram Reels, and whatever the hell else is out there.

So, I need questions! Anything mortgage-related you can think of. Don’t be shy. I enjoy helping first-timers just as must as savvy investors. I’d be happy to answer your question in a video!
