3/30/22 Journal: Nighttime With Sasha

(It’s Sasha and Norah’s bedtime, and I’m laying at the foot of Sasha’s bed; the room is pitch black.)

“Twinkle twinkle, little star–DADDY!! NO!! DON’T SING WITH ME!!”

“I thought we’re supposed to sing together.”

“No, I sing it, then you sing it!”

“Okay.”

“Twinkle twinkle little star
How I wonder what–DAAAAAADDYYYY! I SAID NO SINGING!”

“Okay, okay. It just seems like something we should all do.”

“No, we take turns. First it’s my turn, and I sing, then it’s your turn, and you sing.”

(Sasha sings the entire song correctly.)

“Okay, you sing, Daddy.”

“Twinkle, twinkle, little star
How I wonder what you are
Up above the world so high
Like a butthole in the sky
Twinkle, twinkle, little star
How I wonder what you are”

“DADDY!!!! THERE’S NO ‘BUTTHOLE’ IN TWINKLE TWINKLE LITTLE STAR!”

“What butthole?”

“YOU SAID ‘BUTTHOLE’! STOP MAKING EVERYTHING WITH BUTT!”

“Oh, you’re being silly. I didn’t say ‘butt’.”

“Yes you did! It’s my turn now, don’t sing.”

(She sings the alphabet song perfectly.)

“Okay, your turn, Daddy.”
